Diana Nyad: Swim shows 60s 'not too late' for goals

The lesson that others can take away from her journey is to be your best self."You have to live your life with passion, you show your will, you feel proud of yourself when you go to bed at night," she said.

SELFLESS ACTS OF KINDNESS

Motorcyclist's uncle tells rescuers, 'You are heroes'

I just love how these three guys did not want recognition for being "heroes". They say in their interview that they don't consider themselves heroes. "Just human beings trying to help another human being. That is your natural instinct." We need more of this! I love it.

Lend a Helping Hand

Just last night I was watching PrimeTime. This particular episode discussed poverty in America. It touched my heart because, several viewers after it aired volunteered their time and money to each help one child. So many people think that because we are considered the richest nation in the world that we don't have poverty. Sadly, there is poverty today in this country even with all the Federal Aid. The poorest city nation wide as of 2007 was Camden, NJ. The average income with aid is $18,000 a year. There are a lot more cities out there like this. With poverty you get; drugs, alcohol, prostitution, gangs, guns, and death.

I am not here to make you feel bad or make you feel obligated to do something. I am just trying to spread the word. All people have the same hopes and dreams as a child. Some are born into a life without options. As a nation we need to focus on us. Remembering 9/11 we had people all over the USA join together to rescue our own. How are these children/ people any different? You may think, these people are helpless and don't care but, what about the children? They see people everyday being beat up, cracked out, passed out don't they deserve a chance. We can't save everyone, for that matter the world but, we can save someone. Imagine if everyone helped just one other person how many people that would inspire. If you could inspire just one person, the ways in which they think would shift. Thus, creating a shift in the way we think about each other, as a nation.

Money is great but, if you can't monetarily contribute there are many other ways you can help someone in your community. Maybe you are good at spelling or math. Maybe you like to garden or play ball. Maybe you can teach a craft or make meals for someone. The list is endless. The goal here is to remind you that there are people in our very own country that need support, love, kindness. Inspire someone else today and you may be surprised that they too will inspire you.

Pennsylvania Sloshes through Flood Waters, Scrambles to Help Animals : The Humane Society of the United States

Please take a look at this link if you live any where near PA. There are so many lost animals from the flooding. Of course if you live any where near a disaster area you should take a look around and see if a pet is lost or scared. Several states back east have been hit by floods after the hurricanes/tropical storms. These precious creatures miss their homes and families. If you aren't sure what to do please call your local shelter or animal rescue people. No one not even animals want to be abandoned!

Reaching Out

I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.
Lao Tzu

If you know someone or see someone struggling in their daily life lend them your smile. A simple smile and a sincere hello go a long way. So many people are suffering; look at all the people in Texas that have lost their home and all their belongings. The people back east that have lost their possessions from flooding. The list will go on, so send them a little compassion this doesn't have to come out of your wallet just from your heart. Help others in whatever way YOU can. Who knows you or someone in your family could be needing the same support.Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.

If you know someone struggling in their life reach out.

Community Support and Outreach

Recently, someone I barely knew in the town I live in got word that she has stage 4 breast cancer and 9 brain tumors.Several of my friends knew her and her family and were floored by this news. I mean she is barely 40 years old. How can this be? These women had such compassion and selflessness that they decided to pull everyone together that knew this woman and start raising money for her cause. They made shirts and sweatshirts, spagetti feed, CYOS dinner and raffle, etc. In this fight I came to meet her and thought WOW! What a great lady. What a great thing. Why don't more people come together when people need it. Who cares if you don't know them. You might meet some of the most interesting, caring people this way. People appreciate it when you come to support them no matter if it is for cancer, autism, excersise, crafts,or being a new mom. The power of positive thought supercedes everything else. Come on who doesn't like knowing they are supported in the decisions the make. Seeing how many people came together to support this woman in her fight for life, really got me thinking and well here I am sharing it with you. We need more of this in our communities. My husband lost his mom 3 1/2 years ago to breast cancer that metastasized to her head after fighting it for 8 years.I sure wish she had a support group like my new friend has. How many people out there are fighting or struggling all alone? It doesn't have to be that way. Support and reach out to someone, even if you don't know them. You may be missing out on a good friendship.
